A guide to choosing
It's not a matter of taste, but of available space and how you live in the room.
The right question to ask
A traditional kitchen offers more continuous worktop surface and more storage capacity, and is the right choice when space isn't a constraint and the kitchen is already a dedicated room. A hideaway kitchen like Monolitika, on the other hand, is built for situations where space is limited or where the kitchen visually coexists with other rooms — a studio apartment, an open-space living room, a hotel room, an office — and where the priority is for the kitchen to go unnoticed when not in use.
Direct comparison
More continuous worktop surface and more storage modules; requires a permanently dedicated wall or island; remains always visible, even when not in use; generally requires more floor space for the same appliance equipment.
The same functional equipment (sink, induction hob, built-in appliances) in a depth of just 70 cm; invisible when closed, so suited to coexisting with a living room, bedroom or office; worktop surface available only when the lids are open; made to measure in modules from 30 to 120 cm.
Not all hideaway kitchens are the same
Many solutions on the market simply cover the appliances with a hinged door, leaving the kitchen block still recognisable. Monolitika is a single, complete volume: closed, you can't even tell its function, because it blends in as a real piece of furniture — a sideboard, a credenza, a sculptural element — in any environment: residential, office, hospitality. This is the difference that makes it, even before being practical, a genuine piece of furniture.
When to choose hideaway
Studio apartments, hotel rooms: where every square metre has a high value, a kitchen that occupies only 70 cm of depth frees up real space for other functions.
When the kitchen and living room share the same visual space, being able to "switch off" the kitchen when not in use keeps the living area tidy without hinged doors intruding into the walkway.
Offices, B&Bs, holiday homes: environments where the kitchen is needed only at certain times of day and shouldn't remain the protagonist of the space for the rest of the time.
Same quality, not a compromise
Unlike many budget "monobloc" solutions, Monolitika integrates an induction hob with up to 4 zones (also with hood), a sink with telescopic mixer tap, and compartments for a built-in fridge, dishwasher and oven: the same equipment as a mid-range traditional kitchen, enclosed in a hideaway volume made to measure in Italy.
